Just how widespread?
But precisely how common is untimely ejaculation? There are actually a number of studies on the topic. Not surprisingly, the answers vary.
For instance, a 2006 study referenced that worldwide 30 % of men experienced early ejaculation. But, a study out of a year earlier quoted a figure of 21 %. A 2015 study considering just Italian males discovered prevalence of 18.5 %.
Confusion
Obviously, there is some disagreement about the number of males experience premature ejaculation. But this particular problem is compounded by the actual fact that opinions vary on how to define premature ejaculation. Most males simply believe it to mean ejaculating too soon, but what’s prematurely to one male (or perhaps female) may be completely different than what is too early to the next man (or girl).
Recently, there have been attempts to put together a “universal” definition of premature ejaculation. While this energy is ongoing, far more physicians and researchers appear to be basically defining early ejaculation as the tendency to typically ejaculate inside one minute of penetration.
There are other elements which may cause issues with studies, however. One of the greatest is that most studies are based on self-reported information. In other words, it is less likely that a scientist is able to create a study where a male is really found engaging in intercourse therefore he can independently evaluate the time that passes from first penetrating to ejaculation. Instead, studies rely on men to report whether they experience premature ejaculation or otherwise. A few may not provide a time-based definition, and so a man that considers ejaculating after 5 minutes could classify himself as early. And even when time based definitions are provided, a man won’t effectively assess his performance and may over- or under-estimate the span of time he typically “holds out” before ejaculating.
